#50 Stokke Tripp Trapp Newborn

I already liked the Stokke 'Tripp Trapp' highchair, aesthetically I love the design & practically, I also love the design!
As I have said before, I'm all for longer lasting children's products & as this will both accommodate & last into adulthood it is a perfect example of that.
The Stokke also has plenty of options to make it your own. You can choose from 12 different chair finishes - whitewash, 3 wood stain, 3 shades & 5 brights, 11 different seat moldings & 10 cushioned inserts.

Last weekend I was in a children's store & saw the latest edition to the Tripp Trapp range & yes, I realise I'm late in coming to this party. The newborn attachment!

I think this is fantastic idea & I'm wondering why there wasn't already similar options on the market & if there are, where they are hiding?
It make such a lot of sense to be able to have your baby up off the floor where A. You can easily see them while you cook, do dishes, sit at the table etc and more importantly B. They can easily see you & watch what's going on!
I also think that it's comforting to be able to have them up off the floor (as they would be in a bouncer etc) out of the way of pets & overenthusiastic siblings without taking that interaction entirely away from them.
The capsule can also be detached & sat on any flat surface so you can easily use it as a little seat, it has a 5 point harness & comes with a detachable toy hanger.
There are also 3 easily removable, washable, reversible textile sets available, with a seat cover, shoulder pads & a bib. They are 100% cotton & come in green polka dots, blue polka dots & purple polka dots with classic white reverse.

Brilliant.
I think I'm going to have to start saving my pennies...

#46 Animal Facts

Did you know that a group of apes is called a 'shrewdness'?

Me neither.

How about that a group of bees can be called not only a swarm or a'hive but also a grist, a drift or a bike?
That a flock of birds can, among other things, also be called a dissimulation & a herd of buffalo or bison can also be called an obstinacy?
While you might know that a male donkey is called a jack or a jackass, did you know that a female donkey is called a jennet or a jenny or that a male turkey is a tom?
Or that a baby grasshopper is called a nymph & a lamb can also be called a cosset?

Me neither!!!
We're enjoying this enlightening 'enchanted learning' spreadsheet at our house. Can you tell?

#45 Identity

This morning Master C & I were reading picture books in bed & chatting, when our conversation turned somehow to his name.
I was explaining to him - just for fun - that his middle name was once his fathers nickname, here is the conversation that followed.
Me: So a nickname is something people often call you, that is isn't really your name. Just like we call you 'Spud'.
Master C: Yes... But that's not my real name, my real name is C(insert first, middle & surname here).
Me: Yes. That's right.
Master C: But sometimes people don't know what my name is.
Me: What do you mean?
Master C: Well, all the time people at the shops say to me (adopts the exact intonations as I now realise would so often be used) "Hi there Matey!"
Me - laughing: Honey i know what you mean but they don't think that's your name, it just means ' Hi Friend'... it's just a different word for friend.
Master C: Well... I don't like it.
Me: Why not honey? It's a nice thing to say to someone?
Master C: Because my name is C(insert first, middle & last name here). And, I am happy with that.

I think it is quite amazing just how young a child's sense of identity develops.
I also think it both remarkable & amusing that they are often so fiercely protective of it...That for so many children the use of any adjective will elicit a fiery response of " No I'm not! I'm *name*!!!"
In a way it feels like a tiny insight into a time in the future when everything about them will be so much more 'them' than their parents. When the name that you gave them will suddenly seem so much more to you, than it does to them.
A most frightening & lovely role reversal...

#28 Babushka Babushka Babushka (yah yaaah)

I saw these online a while ago & promptly forgot about them until seeing them in a store last week...

Uh hello, cute much?!

They're made from some fancy very strong glass (oh I'm so knowledgeable, clearly! It's called borosilicate glass) so I'd be brave enough to let my little one use them.
Another plus, dishwasher safe.
They also, as you can see in the picture, stack inside each other like real babushka dolls, so are very handy for those tight on kitchen storage space.
Whether that be because there isn't much of it or because you have no self control when it comes homewares... *cough cough*
What do you think? Convinced myself?

#10 Who's for Sushi?

Master C's new bath toys - A school of brightly coloured fish. Quite the hit!

For those who don't recognize these little fellas...
One of Master C's most favourite foods is Sushi, which is usually sold accompanied by little fish shaped containers full of soy sauce...

It was mighty hard work, but here's what we did :
Step 1: Enjoyed our delicious Sushi :)
Step 2: Washed the remaining soy sauce out.
Step 3: Filled them with diluted food colouring.
Hey presto all done!

I recommend diluting the food dye so that if little ones do manage to get the lids off, it won't stain their skin or the tub.

At the rate Master C goes through Sushi though, very soon there may not be any room left for him in the bath...

#3 Purebaby

I am a huge fan of Purebaby. HUGE.
Purebaby is an Australian based company who make the most amazing clothes for babies and children using only pure organic cotton.
If you haven't come across them yet I highly recommend you go out of your way to!

A couple of weeks ago and I had a snoop at the 2009 Summer collection and let me tell you, It's a good'n.

Favourite pieces are without a doubt in the Girls 'Highlight' collection this season.
They have quite a vintage feeling influence in my opinion - probably explains in part why I'm loving it quite so much?

Purebaby-Newborn Purebaby-Girls/Highlights

Gorgeous simple and summery dresses, 2 piece sets and little overalls - Luscious light knits - Beautiful woven shorts, shirts, overalls and dresses - Lovely linen - And a sweet nest design on pieces of the newborn range combined with Pure Baby's ever present 'easy necks' and 'kimono' designs add up to make me fall in love with them all over again!

I'm also fairly fond of the alphabet design that's been carried over from last season...

And in a bit of exciting news ( For myself and other Purebaby tragics in any case) there are now 3 new Collections -Essentials, Premi and Bedding.
The Essentials range is excellent.

Purebaby-Premi

Definately recommend finding your local stockist and having a look for yourself, or take advantage of some of the brilliant online specials here.

If I had to pick ONE favourite for this season, I think these adorable shorts would probably come out on top...

How sweet are they??? If only I had a daughter to put in them! Tempting to buy them and put them aside...you know, just in case...
